Tahitian pearls are saltwater pearls from the black-lipped Pinctada margaritifera oyster, which is farmed in the waters around Tahiti and the French Polynesian Islands. Their hues range from deep black, grey and bronze to peacock, aubergine, white, grey-green and blue-green. With dimensions between the 8 mm and 16 mm they are among the larger and rarer pearl species.
